Our Favourite things to do in Kalkan 2021

Our Favourite Things to do in Kalkan

Kalkan is a small, but popular town, renowned for its rich history, excellent beaches and cobbled streets lined with pink bougainvillea in the Summer months. Based on Turkeys Mediterranean coast; Kalkan is a town sure to bring smiles onto everyone’s faces. Here is our list of things not to be missed when here.

  1. Travelling on Water:

A definite must do during the Summer months, and probably the best way to explore Kalkans crystal clear waters, is a day trip on a traditional gület or boat tour. With a wide choice on offer, swimming stops along the way and a tasty homemade lunch provided why would you not choose to travel this way?

A relaxing boat trip towards Kekova is something not to be missed by history lovers. The ancient Lycian settlement was destroyed by an earthquake during the 2nd Century, and flooded the city, leaving only a few remaining tombs peeking out of the turquoise waters. This now sunken city can only be reached by water, and we recommend taking a kayak with one of the many tour operators to visit this historical place.

And, for our visitors who prefer exploring further out a quick trip to Meis (or the Greek island of Kastellorizo) is a must do. Although only a very small island, it is incredibly picturesque and certainly not something to be missed. With many of its restaurants specialising in seafood and Greek mezes you will be sure to find some of them full for lunch.

  1. Road Trips:

Kalkan and its surrounding areas are a joy to travel if you hire a car; not only can you explore at your own pace but also discover new and exciting places.

Xanthos and Letoon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, are a must-visit for any history lovers. It has been said that the most important texts in the Lycian language were found inscribed here, and it is only around a 30 minute journey from Kalkan.

For visitors who prefer a more adventurous holiday a day trip to Saklikent gorge may be what you’re looking for. Whether it’s river rafting or gorge walking, Saklikent is sure to bring some excitement and thrill into your holiday.

  1. Kalkans Famous Beaches:

A day out to Patara Beach will make lasting memories for families. Turkeys longest beach stretches on for 11 miles along the coast, and it not only popular among people, but also the breeding ground for the endangered loggerhead sea turtle.

Kaputaş Beach is located on the coastal road between Kalkan and Kaş; famous for its wavy turquoise sea that is reached by descending down over 150 steps. Make sure to start the day by taking a photo at the top!

Kalkan itself has a few beach clubs that are popular among locals and holiday makers alike. Beach clubs are essentially decking or a strip of raised land that have direct access to the sea via a ladder. They also have a restaurant for service during the day, and most of these beach clubs have a small entrance fee.

Whilst our list was only short, we hope it gives you a little bit of a taste of the things that you can enjoy whilst staying in Kalkan and its surrounding areas.

Of course, after all of this exploring and adventure Baransel Villas will have you sorted for a luxurious villa to relax in afterwards!
