Why Do We Celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many places all over the world on the 14th February. But why exactly did it begin? It is believed that the Catholic Church may have established St. Valentine’s Day in order to honour the two men as martyrs (both men of which were called Valentine) who were executed by Emperor Claudius II on February 14th (however both in different years). It has also been reported by historians that St Valentine of Terni had secretly been officiating weddings for Roman soldiers against the emperor’s wishes (as he believed married men made bad soldiers). Therefore, in the eyes of some, making him a figure of love.
